History of the Museum

The museum building was used as the Office of the Regional House of Chiefs. The building was sold to the Ghana government in 1967, and the Volta Regional museum was opened in 1973.

They include the Chair of State of the last colonial German governor of the Volta Region, local paintings, woodcraft and potter, Volta Region Kente designs, masks, chiefs’ stools, swords, and displays on Asante fetish shrines.`

Opening hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm every day, while the museum’s office is open from 7:30am to 12:30pm, and 1:30pm to 4:30pm, from Monday to Friday..
